Travel Tip: Vegas Loyalty Programs

Jan 13, 2020Travel0 comments

Maximize your next Vegas vacation by using your hotel's loyalty program.

We’ve been coming to Vegas regularly for the past 6 years. I have many people ask, why Vegas? Isn’t Vegas the place you go for a bachelor or bachelorette party, get drunk for a few days, wake up in strange places and come home with no money.

The allure for us is that Vegas has a lot of options all within a very close distance. You can choose what level of hotel you want to stay at, what level of amenities you want, spa, pool, room size, and views. You can eat anything from In n Out burger to $300 steaks. Celebrity chef restaurants, shopping, golf, and gambling. You can rent a car and go to Red Rock, Valley of Fire, Hoover Dam, or the Grand Canyon. If you have more time 3.5 hours to LA. You can vacation with or without a car, spend a little money or spend a lot of money and no one seems to judge you either way.

Loyalty Programs

If you booked at a Caesars property, a MGM property, Wynn, Venetian, or others join their rewards program to take full advantage of the points and other perks that may offer. Make sure your card is registered with your room. As you accumulate points, you’ll move up the tiers. Keep checking your tier status and what perks come with the new tiers. For example at MLife, Gold status gives you free valet parking or front of the line access to Buffets, etc.

Charge to your room. To take full advantage of points, charge to your room (merchandise, food, room service, bar tab, etc) You’re paying for it regardless so why not get the points. Some stores or restaurants may not accept your rewards card but they may still let you charge to the room. Charge to the room and show the hotel you spend money. This is a simple way to make sure you get the points.

Just make sure your Rewards card is registered with your room. Always ask at check-in to make sure they have it.

Slots. If you’re playing the slots, use your rewards card to get points for the play. Slot play builds your comp value and your freeplay value! If you’re going to play slots, you’re leaving money on the table by not using your card.

Check your points. We use MLife which is MGM’s program. Usually, on the last night we’ll check our “Comp’s earned” value and then cash them in on dinner or breakfast. We typically accumulate $60-$100 on a trip which buys a dinner. Also by checking your points you may have levelled up a tier. You may want to know so you can take advantage of those tier perks.

Follow-up Offers. Check your email or the site and see what offers you’re being extended. Remember, you charged to your room and booked through the hotel, they know you spend money and they want you back! Our next trip is in late September and we’re getting 4 free nights at the Park MGM, $200 Room Credit, and $200 Slots Free Play. 5 days, 4 nights for ZERO hotel cost.
